China Airlines Earns High Rankings for Inflight Entertainment

October 14, 2005, Taipei, Taiwan - China Airlines today announced that its inflight entertainment has won the First Runner Up award for Best Graphic User Interface (GUI) Design, and the Second Runner Up award for the Best Inflight Video Programming - Short Haul. The awards were presented at the prestigious 17th Annual Avion Awards, in Hamburg, Germany, by the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA). This is the best result CAL has achieved in the competition, and the best result ever achieved by a Taiwanese carrier.

The WAEA represents nearly 100 airlines and over 250 airline suppliers and related companies, and is committed to excellence in inflight entertainment. The judging panel was drawn from the publishing, recording, and television/film industries, and the judges assessed originality, suitability, production value, content and balance.

China Airlines’ Audio and Video on Demand (AVOD) system is now gradually installed on its A330, A340 and B747-400 fleets. The wide choice of AVOD interactive entertainment includes 50 movies and short features, 160 music CDs, 15 video games and 15 music channels, available in English, Chinese and Japanese.

Using the AVOD system, passengers can select any entertainment program they please, based on their own choices and schedules. Passengers can self-edit their music selections through CAL’s “My Play List” feature. The new system enables passengers of China Airlines to enjoy an unsurpassed in-flight entertainment experience.
